The utterly-false rumor site Digitimes reports that Apple is preparing a new design for an inexpensive iPhone that's heading to emerging markets in late 2013. The website cites sources within Apple's supply chain. The sources also say that the iPhone will have a larger display and will come with a revamped design. One part of this Digitimes story doesn't add up. If Apple makes an iPhone with a larger screen, than it will most likely increase the cost. Given of how Digitimes and these "unnamed sources" are almost always wrong, don't expect this to play out.

Hmmm... it's moved beyond Digitimes "reporting." Maybe there's something to the rumor?
ReplyDeleteI think it'd be cool to satisfy those customers with bigger hands and larger tastes.
ReplyDeleteThe WSJ is usully very reliable from what I can recall. Maybe there is something to this rumor after all.
ReplyDeleteWhat i really want is an ipad mini with retina display!
Geez - all we need is more of the unwashed masses using Apple products. What is this world coming to? I remember when owning Apple gear made you one of the elite. So sad to see what is happening.
ReplyDelete*sigh*
DeleteWow. If owning any electronic device makes you feel elite, or special, or different, or unique in ANY WAY, maybe you should start spending your money on psychiatric evaluation?
DeleteJust a thought. A thought that I had without the aid of my Apple products.
So sad to see what is happening...
If it weren't for your Apple products - you would never have been able to type that here or anywhere.
DeleteNow bow down before Tim and kiss his feet
Isn't this the kind of stuff that Apple 'fans' hate?
ReplyDeleteIf this is true, wonder if it'll appear in the States? Or Europe? If it is a move for a less expensive iPhone, what are the chances of Apple selling it only in markets needing cheaper iPhones?
ReplyDeleteI'd choose a black polycarbonate iphone 5 any day over the current aluminum version, it just makes more sense. The stainless steel 4's were so much more scuff resistant than the current soft aluminum so just give me light weight quality plastic. It wouldn't chafe in the case any worse than what I have now. If it's cheaper, that's a plus as well.
ReplyDeleteExactly. The WSJ is also common venue for Apple's controlled leaks. Apple hasn't ever produced a product specifically for an emerging market, so this would be a big deal.
ReplyDeleteOh no. What will some posters here be able to counter the crappy plastic Samsung, LG and other "crap" with if Apple makes a cheap version of their iPhone in PLASTIC?! Oh nozzzzzz
ReplyDeleteI'm more eager to believe this than Apple keeping 3.5 inch iPhones for much longer.
ReplyDeleteAlthough a smaller cheaper iPhone could mean huge cannabilasation of current iPhone and may not be such a smart move - Aside from iPod nano which serves a portability purpose I can't recall when Apple had made a low end product just to sell to a wider audience (even basic MacBooks have always been pretty pricey laptops compared to high end pc laptops)
It's pretty hard to be less expensive than a $0 iPhone 4 (in the US, anyway).
ReplyDeletehat "free" phone is worth $450. Not cheap by my standards.
